Our Home Page

We are Kilmaurs Community Council and we are dedicated to improving our village with your help and support. Please check out our website to find what is happening in the village. If you are organising an event then let us know via "Contact Us" and we will endeavour to publicise it. We are part of East Ayrshire and receive a small budget to cover the costs of operating the group. We have a monthly meeting in the Masonic Hall which is in the centre of the village.

Our monthly meetings are attended by Councillors and the Police where two-way communication results in positive outcomes for the Community

Want To Join The Kilmaurs Community Council?

Kilmaurs Community Council is made up of a variety of individuals from our community.  Some born and bred in the village, a few who have been adopted and others more recent arrivals. Each and every one of them has the community at heart and are happy to spend some of their time trying to make the village a better place to live in.

Do you think you have something to offer and are interested in joining the Kilmaurs Community Council, then we would be delighted to see you at one of our first Tuesday of the month meetings. Please come along.

Village Projects

Do you have an idea that you think would improve our village?  Whilst money is not always easy to come by to fund projects, we do need to know what the community would like.  Suggestions so far have been flower containers within the village and once completed the illumination of the Jougs.  These ideas are still at the early stages of  planning and we would like to hear if you have some other projects in mind.

NEW    Repair to Penny Bridge

Repair to the Penny Bridge

On behalf of the Kilmaurs Community Council, we are looking for your help. The Penny Bridge, which forms an integral part of the Town Trail route, has fallen into a state of disrepair. It is getting to the stage where it is becoming dangerous to cross. The Community Council is seeking to have necessary repair work carried out in order to maintain this historically important feature of the village.
To this end, we have applied for funding via East Ayrshire Council's Wellbeing for All Fund. This Fund is limited to £150,000 which will be allocated through a voting process. We are seeking help from the residents of Kilmaurs by participating in this voting process.
The East Ayrshire catchment has been split into 3 areas (£50,000 for each area); Kilmaurs is located in the Northern district. There are 19 projects seeking funding in this district. Voters are required to choose 5 projects from the list of 19. We encourage you to vote online via the link below and select your top 5 projects. Please make the Penny Bridge repair one of them: there are other project based in Kilmaurs that you can select.
Thanks in advance for your efforts in helping repair the Penny Bridge and assisting other worthy cause.

In Memory of Ian Clark

Ian Clark was born and bred in Kilmaurs.  Throughout his life he was a stalwart of the community involved in so many ways within various groups and societies within our village.  He was known by many as the smiling gentleman who never backed away from volunteering, freely offering his time and efforts to help others.  He had a keen interest in horticulture, chairing the local society and lending his experience to the Community Council when tackling the village gardens or railway station planters

His passing this year was a very sad loss to everyone.

Kilmaurs Community Council in consultation with Ian's wife Elizabeth, East Ayrshire Council and local elected members felt that a fitting memorial to Ian would be to name the village gardens after him.

CLARK GARDENS

The Community Council have once again produced a wonderful display of flowers in our village centre.

They would like to thank the members of the community who have given up their time to assist during some of the gardening days.

Special thanks to those supplying the workers ice lollies on a very warm day during the summer and to John Cairns the new proprietor of the Weston Tavern and Restaurant for the provision of Teas and Coffees.

In the foreground of the picture is the new tree which was donated by the Kilmaurs Horticultural Society earlier this year.  It looks terrific.

We would not be able to do this if it wasn't for the support of businesses and the people of Kilmaurs.

Check out our Railway Station which is also looking splendid.

Thanks to all involved

THE JOUGS - UPDATE

I am sure everyone will agree that the long awaited restoration to the Jougs has been worth waiting for.  The building looks splendid and is now a real historical centre point to the Village that we can all be justifiably proud of.

East Ayrshire Council have done a marvellous job in project managing this which has not been just a quick fix but a well researched sympathetic restoration using proper building methods.

June 2019.  Last Christmas (2018) we attempted to return the traditional Christmas Tree above the Jougs entrance door however modern day safety standards were prohibitive.  We did however illuminate one of the windows.

We are presently in discussion with EAC in an attempt to illuminate the clock tower.  Although there is a spot light on the building it has not been operational for many years.

THE OLD CAFE - UPDATE

On Saturday 12th May 2018, Kilmaurs Community Council, assisted by other members of the community carried out some paintwork to the building at 15/17 Main Street Kilmaurs.

I am sure you will all agree that this has made a big difference to the visual impact of these premises.

Thanks to EAC for assisting in seeking permission to carry out this work and the support of our local elected members.
